I found this awesome music video while I was looking for information about Medan!
This blog is not an official Department of State Web site and the views and information presented are my own, not those of AMINEF, the Department of State, or the Fulbright Program.

One Step Closer
This past week I learned of my assignment in Indonesia. I will be working at a private Muslim school, MAN 1, in Medan, Indonesia. This is not, of course, definite. My assignment is subject to change at any time, even once I arrive. But for now, in order to gain some peace of mind, it is Medan or bust!
My friends and I have started in on our research! From what I can tell, Medan is a non-touristy tourist stop. In other words, people go there to get somewhere else. In my mind, it's like St. Louis used to be - the gateway to the West. Some sources say it's lovely, others an industrial eyesore. Either way, I'm excited!
I think I found the school's website: http://mansatumdn.blogspot.com/. Thanks to google translate, I can decipher a tiny bit about the school. Right now my biggest question is whether or not I will need to veil when I teach. I won't mind, but given my nice round, fat, baby face, I want to start acquiring beautiful, flattering scarves. This school has never had a Fulbright before, so we might be making up the rules as we go! Oh boy!
